Red wine has been found to be useful in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease

Good news about our red wines: they are not only enjoyable for our spirit but also for our body!

Among all the beneficial effects of the resveratrol, the substance which is contained in the grapes and present in the red wine, it has been discovered that it should also serve as neuroprotective function. This fact has been stated by U.S. researchers at Georgetown University (Washington DC).

In order to confirm this discovery a clinical study with patients suffering from slight or moderate dementia has been started and it will last a year. In recent years, resveratrol has taken under observation and several publications have shown anti-aging properties and support in the fight against various diseases such as diabetes, cancer, obesity.

Patients who are going to participate in the study will be divided into two groups: a tablet of pure resveratrol will be given twice per day to the first group while, to the other group, it will be given a placebo.
Everyone will be submitted to specific examinations in order to control the progression of AD.
“Most of the studies” said Scott Turner, a researcher involved in the new tests “that show the health benefits of resveratrol, have been conducted using animals and with doses that greatly exceed those contained in a glass of wine”. Hence the need to assess the safety of high doses, even though it will take quite a long time to refine these specific treatments.

So remember this when drink our Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese but remember also that it has to be consumed with moderation!
